The farming operation consists of several divisions, including wheat, maize, potatoes, beetroot, carrots and onions. The ideal candidate will therefore have broad exposure to vegetable farming, with the ability to manage different production divisions practically, in an organised manner and with purpose.
The ideal candidate should meet the following requirements:
• 6 to 8 years’ relevant experience in a similar farm management role
• Strong practical knowledge of vegetable farming
• Experience in crop production
• Knowledge of wheat, maize, onions, beetroot, carrots and potatoes will be highly recommended
• Good staff management and leadership ability
• Strong organisational and planning skills
• Mechanical knowledge and practical problem-solving ability will be advantageous
• A tertiary agricultural qualification is recommended
• The necessary business acumen to ensure that he/she remains consistently profit-oriented
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Overall management and coordination of daily farming activities
• Planning, implementation and monitoring of production across various divisions
• Practical management of wheat, maize, beetroot, carrots, onions and potato production
• Organising work programmes, staff and production priorities
• Managing staff performance, discipline and productivity
• Overseeing the maintenance of infrastructure, equipment, vehicles and mechanisation
• Identifying opportunities for improvement in production, costs and efficiency
• Working closely with the owner on planning, decision-making and strategic development
• Ensuring that tasks are completed on time, neatly and according to expected standards
